Must-Watch American Latino Olympians

These are some big must-watch American Latino Olympians to watch for in Week Two of 2024 Paris Olympic Games. 

It feels like the 2024 Paris Olympics is everything people are talking about – and it’s with reason. From the Dominican-American gymnast Hezly Rivera to the Mexican-American boxer Jennifer Lozano, our U.S. Latino community is showing up, demonstrating their immaculate expertise and overall sportsmanship.

As we approach the ending ceremonies, these are American Latino athletes to watch out for and ultimately, get to know more about.

Must-Watch American Latino Olympians

Victor Montalvo

Sport: Breaking (breakdancing)

Montalvo is a Mexican-American breaker representing his sport in Team USA. He qualified for the Olympics after winning the gold medal at the World DanceSport Federation’s World Breaking Championship in Belgium (2023). He was named the team’s first representative. Montalvo’s come a long way since his start in 1999 at only 6 years old. Now, he has the privilege to represent our flag at the Olympics – and many fans speculate he’ll take the gold medal.

Diana Taurasi 

Sport: Basketball

Taurasi is an Argentinean-American basketball player who currently holds the most Olympic titles in U.S. basketball history. She’s competed in Team USA at Athens 2004, Beijing 2008, London 2012, Rio 2016, Tokyo 2020, and now, she’s aiming for her sixth gold medal in Paris. This also marks a huge moment for her career since it will be her final Olympics.

Anita Alvarez

Sport: Artistic Swimming

Alvarez is a Mexican-American artistic and synchronized swimmer who’s part of this year’s Team USA. Hailing from Buffalo, NY, this is the Olympian athlete’s third Olympics. In Rio 2016, she came in 9th place in duets. In Tokyo 2020, she came 13th in duets. She’s set to compete in duets and women’s team events.

Devin Booker

Sport: Basketball

Booker is a Mexican-American professional basketball player who’s part of this year’s Team USA. He is playing with other figureheads like LeBron James, Stephen Curry, and last season’s NBA Champion Jayson Tatum. Booker previously won a gold medal in Tokyo 2020.

Jennifer Muciño-Fernandez

Sport: Archery

Muciño-Fernandez is a Mexican-American archer. She was born in Boston, MA, and raised in Mexico City. At 21 years old, she’s already a 2x Olympian. She competed in Tokyo 2020 and received 8th place in the category Team – Women, and 17th place in the category Individual – Women.
