We proclaim 2023 as the year of Shakira! The Latina icon’s latest single, alongside Argentinian DJ and producer Bizarrap, “Music Sessions vol.53,” recently broke 14 Guinness World records within 24 hours – setting various streaming records.

Shakira has always been a trendsetting musician. She serenaded possibly the most iconic World Cup song in 2008 with “Waka Waka” and has also had one of the most popular club songs over the last 20 years with “Hips Don’t Lie.”

It has been quite a year of headlines for Shakira, which included a fair share of triumphs and challenges.

Nevertheless, since her split from Spanish soccer player Gerard Piqué Bernabeu, things have been trending up for Shakira – possibly higher than ever.

In a 24 hour period, she broke more Guinness World Records than we can count on two hands. The 14 records that were broken include:

  • First female vocalist to debut in the Top 10 of the Billboard Hot 100 with a Spanish-language track
  • Most No. 1s on Billboard’s Latin Airplay chart by a female artist
  • First female artist to replace herself at No. 1 on Billboard’s Latin Airplay chart

  • The fastest Latin track to reach 100 million views on YouTube – two days and approximately 22 hours
  • The most streamed Latin track on Spotify in one week- 80,646,962 streams

To celebrate, Shakira accepted the honors backstage at the Jimmy Fallon show, and then performed the hit song with DJ Bizzarap.

“I know when a song works, because then I suddenly start moving … like, getting these small contractions. from my tailbone to my iliac bone. And then it just results into, you know, hip movements,” Shakira told Jimmy Fallon, to which the host smiled and replied: “Are you telling me that your hips don’t lie?”

The Jimmy Fallon performance went viral, as audience members sang each lyric en Español with Shakira herself. To date, Shakira is now a 17 time Guinness World Record holder.

Shakira recently collaborated with another Colombian trailblazing artist – the one and only Karol G. Their song TQG is killing it on all streaming platforms, leaving fans anxiously waiting for Shakira’s album, which is currently in the works. In fact, it was recently announced that Ed Sheeran would be bringing his writing talents to the much anticipated release.
